Carpet Cleaning Advice

Over time carpets become soiled and dirty and need to be restored by cleaning the carpet. Although there are many do-it-yourself carpet cleaning kits available, hiring a professional cleaner is usually the wisest choice for protecting your carpet investment. Not all carpets are the same in carpet fiber, dying methods, or types of carpet construction and you need to know all of these things about your carpets before choosing the best cleaning method to use. Also, there are dry and wet methods for carpet cleaning and you need some knowledge when using either of these methods so you do not permanently damage the carpet fibers.

Choosing a Carpet Cleaner

Don't make selecting a carpet cleaner on price alone. Carpet cleaning is big business today and you should consider the points below when selecting a carpet cleaning professional:

  • Never accept cleaning appointments over the phone. Real professionals need to see your carpet to determine the best methods of cleaning and for determining the costs for cleaning your carpeting.
  • Ask for references in your area.
  • Ask how long they have been doing carpet cleaning.
  • Ask them about their cleaning technicians formal training.
  • Ask what services are included, such as moving furniture, etc.
  • Discuss what cleaning methods they recommend and exactly how it will be done.
  • Ask to see their cleaning warranty in writing.
  • If special stain treatments are recommended it is wise to check with the carpet manufacturer to prevent voiding your carpet warranty.
  • Make sure the contract is in writing and what is included with normal cleaning and what they consider as extra fees.
