Berber Carpets

Berber carpets were first used in making bulky, looped-pile wool carpets. The wool fibers gave the carpet a natural off-white heather appearance with flecks of light and dark earthtone colors that has been popular for many years. Today, carpet manufacturers offer berber carpets made from synthetic fibers as well, but still trying to duplicate the soft look and feel of wool berbers.

Berber carpets are a great choice in active areas of the home and will show less normal traffic patterns, footprints and will hide vacumming. The thicker yarns, extra crimping of the fibers and loop pile construction keeps berber carpets looking new longer than some of the other types of carpeting. This style construction is also easier to care for and makes the carpet more durable. Wood berber carpets are also non-toxic and non-allergenic and are considered a green product. Like all carpets, berber carpet with a gquality cushion underneath is a good insulator and can cut your energy costs in the colder winder climates.

Berber carpet construction varies from fine level loops to the large nubby loop piles. Colorations tend to be towards the lighter earthtones, but some are offered in pastels as well as cut-pile saxonies. The fibers used today in berber carpets include wool, nylons, olefins and blends of olefin and nylons. Because of the loop type construction care should be taken not to snag the loops which could cause damage, such as unraveling of the yarn. Wool berber carpets will have some pilling due to the staple wool fibers.

Berber carpets are also offered in a wide range of styles, from casual to elegant to patterned designs. There is no doubt you can find berber carpets today to fit any room decor and lifestyle. The natural colors of berbber carpets make it easy to deocorate around and will add warmth and subtle charm to any room.

You can find berber carpets at any specialty flooring store as well as many of the home centers. For the widest selection look for the specialty carpet stores in your area. They will also be able to offer expert installation and carpet cleaning service when needed.
